Maine Unemployment Extension

Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) is a temporary program providing additional weeks of unemployment benefits to qualified workers who have run out of Regular Unemployment benefits:

  • Up to 14 weeks of benefits under EUC Tier 1
  • Up to 14 weeks of benefits under EUC Tier 2
  • Up to 9 weeks of benefits under EUC Tier 3

Total available weeks currently available in Maine is 63 weeks (Regular 26 weeks+ EUC 37 weeks)

Note: Currently Maine does not offer Extended benefits (EB).

You will not have to serve a waiting week for Emergency Unemployment Compensation benefits.  It may take one to three weeks to process your initial claim.  Once your claim is opened and you are determined eligible, your first benefit payment will be processed within 1 – 3 days after you file a weekly claim either by Internet, telephone or mail (providing no eligibility issues are pending).

Extended Benefits (EB) – Program Ended

Under federal law, as of 2019, EUC benefits are no longer available.

Extensions for collecting UI payments are in effect only during periods of high unemployment and only if the state or federal government take specific action to provide extended benefits.
