Workforce Investment Act
The Workforce Invest Act (WIA), the first major reform of the nation’s job training system in over 15 years, was signed into law by President Bill Clinton on August 7, 1998 and went into effect July 1, 2000.
The purposes of WIA are to give American workers the chance to equip themselves with the skills and information needed to compete in the new economy and to help workers take responsibility for building a better future for themselves and their families.
WIA helps to increase the employment, retention and earnings of participants, and, as a result, improve the quality of the workforce, reduce welfare dependency and enhance the productivity and competitiveness of the Nation.
Workforce investment activities authorized and funded by WIA are delivered at the local level to those in need of services, including job seekers, dislocated workers, displaced homemakers, youth, veterans, disabled individuals and employers. Services are provided through a One-Stop Career Center delivery system that incorporates partnerships between various public and private sector employment and training agencies.

The cost information displayed represents only the total dollar amount, per student, for in-district/in-state tuition and required fees and the cost of books for the program or course. Additional costs may apply, including expenses for out-of-district or out-of-state tuition, non-required fees, equipment, materials and supplies, tools, uniforms or living expenses.
In addition, a student’s total cost of training may be affected by the program length, enrollment status (part-time versus full-time), residence status (in-district/in-state versus out-of-district/out-of-state), housing arrangements or the availability of additional financial assistance. Training providers update cost information annually. These costs are intended to be used as a guide only. Please check with each individual provider for current training cost information.
Reemployment Services
The Nebraska Department of Labor participates in a special program designed to help you find work. The program selects individuals early in their unemployment and offers services that may quicken their reemployment. If you receive a notice that you have been selected, you are required to take part in this program to continue receiving your unemployment benefit payments. These services are part of a continuing program to help you find work.
