Vermont Unemployment Weekly Claims

Once you have established your claim, you need to continue filing weekly claims to continue receiving benefits. Weekly claims can be submitted via the Internet or the telephone and through mail in some rare cases.

Filing claims through Internet:

This is the easiest and fastest way.

Visit Vermont’s Department of Labor’s website and follow the instructions. The website accepts claims 24 hrs on Sundays, 3:30 am to 11:30 pm Monday – Thursday and Friday 3:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Filing through telephone:

To file claims through the telephone, call the toll free Weekly Claims Line at 1-800-983-2300 and select option #1. While this option does sound easy, it is only available to claimants who are sure to return to work within a time period of 10 weeks or less.

Once you have picked option #1, you will be asked a series of 8 questions concerning the week of unemployment for which you are filing. Following are the questions that you can expect.

  • Were you available and physically able to work during that week?
  • Was any job offer refused during that week?
  • Did you quit a job?
  • Did you get fired from any job?
  • Have you received a pay back award or settlement?
  • Have you received wages in lieu of notice, vacation pay or worker’s compensation?
  • Were you performing job search as directed?
  • Did you work or earn any wages?

If you forgot to file a claim or if you were unable to do it for some reason, call claimant assistance number at 1-877-214-3332. Claims can be filed until 4:30 pm, Friday.

Filing claims via mail

Filing your claims via mail is the slowest method. However, if you still want to continue with this method, forward your claim to the following postal address.
